About TradeTools
TradeTools is a free HS code lookup and customs classification tool for importers, exporters, customs brokers, and international trade professionals. We help you find the right Harmonized System (HS) code for your products so you can classify shipments correctly and meet customs requirements.
What is an HS code?
The Harmonized System (HS) is a global standard for naming and numbering traded products. Customs authorities use HS codes (also called tariff codes, commodity codes, or classification codes) to identify goods, apply duties, and collect trade statistics. Countries extend the base 6-digit HS into longer codes: the US uses a 10-digit HTS (Harmonized Tariff Schedule), India uses ITC-HS (8-digit), the EU uses TARIC (10-digit). Our tool lets you search by product description and see the code in your target country’s format.
Who uses TradeTools?
- Importers and exporters – to find the correct HS code for customs declarations and avoid delays or penalties
- Customs brokers and freight forwarders – to quickly look up HTS codes, TARIC codes, and other national extensions
- Small businesses and e‑commerce sellers – to classify products for cross-border sales
- Procurement and compliance teams – to verify harmonized tariff classification for contracts and audits
How the HS Code Lookup works
Our HS code search uses product descriptions and the Harmonized System structure (sections, chapters, headings, subheadings) to suggest matching codes. You choose your country (US, India, or EU) and get results in that country’s nomenclature—HTS code, ITC-HS, TARIC. Each result shows the full hierarchy and description so you can confirm the right customs classification. Always validate the final code with official sources (e.g. USITC for HTS, TARIC for EU) or a licensed customs broker before filing.
